Vascular endothelial growth factor B (VEGF-B) is a member of the VEGF growth factor family, characterized by a conserved eight-cysteine residue pattern and shared receptors. This protein plays critical roles in cellular processes including endothelial cell stimulation, angiogenesis, cell migration, and vascular permeability. VEGFB specifically binds to the VEGFR1 receptor and is most abundantly expressed in heart, skeletal muscle, and pancreas tissues. Genetically, VEGFB is mapped to chromosome 11q13, highlighting its distinct molecular characteristics within the broader VEGF growth factor family. Recombinant Human VEGF-B consists of two identical 167-amino acid polypeptide chains connected by disulfide bonds and glycosylated.
