Hank's Balanced Salt Solution is composed of inorganic salts and is supplemented with glucose. It is used to maintain cells in a viable state, rather than promoting their growth. The solution may be used to wash cells and tissue. Because the solution is buffered with phosphate, it maintains a physiological pH and osmotic pressure. The solution is sterile filtered through a 0.2?m membrane filter.
